At Sitecore Symposium in November 2025, Sitecore renamed XM Cloud to SitecoreAI and positioned it as a single platform for content, data and personalisation, with AI built in rather than added on. For marketing and technology leaders, the rename raises practical questions: what is actually included, what happens to existing XM Cloud and XP investments, and does it change your roadmap? This article answers those questions. For the wider picture of Sitecore development, start with our guide to Sitecore development services.
What SitecoreAI is
SitecoreAI is Sitecore’s SaaS, headless digital experience platform. Content is managed in the cloud and delivered through APIs to front ends built in frameworks such as Next.js. Sitecore describes it as connecting CMS, DAM, personalisation, CDP and search into one platform, which addresses one of the long-standing complaints about Sitecore: that its products felt like separate acquisitions rather than one system.
What is new beyond the name
- Agentic Studio: a workspace where marketers use, customise and build AI agents that automate and coordinate marketing work, with a set of pre-built agents provided by Sitecore.
- Pathways: AI-assisted tooling aimed at automating parts of the migration from Sitecore XP or XM to SitecoreAI.
- Marketplace and Connect: an app marketplace and a library of pre-built connectors to other platforms.
The rename matters less than the direction: Sitecore is betting on SaaS, headless delivery and AI agents. Your roadmap should be planned against that direction, not against the old product names.

How SitecoreAI differs from XP and XM
Sitecore XP and XM are self-hosted: you run the servers (on-premise or in your cloud), you apply upgrades, and much of the presentation is traditionally rendered by the CMS itself. SitecoreAI is SaaS: Sitecore runs and updates the platform, and the front end is a separate headless application. We compare all three in detail in Sitecore XP vs XM vs SitecoreAI.
What it means for existing customers
XM Cloud customers
The move to SitecoreAI is largely a continuation of the platform you already use. The priorities are understanding the new capabilities in your contract, keeping your headless front end on supported SDK versions, and deciding whether to adopt Agentic Studio.
XP and XM customers
The question is when and how to migrate, not whether the destination exists. XP customers in particular need a plan for analytics and personalisation, which work differently in a composable SaaS world. See migrating from Sitecore XP to SitecoreAI, or if migration is not yet right, upgrading Sitecore XP.
Where to start
Begin with an assessment of your current solution: version, custom code, integrations, personalisation rules, content volume and front-end approach. That gives you a realistic view of effort, the sequence of work and the business case.
